Toyota, Honda experiment with energy-efficient projects
Executive Summary
Japan is the world's largest importer of liquefied natural gas, the second-largest importer of coal and the third-largest importer of crude oil and oil products. The decision by this energy-poor nation to shut down its 48 nuclear reactors in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima accident has meant Japan has had to fast track new technologies and to accelerate its use of renewable energy. Progress has been considerable.
